The Swedish heavy metal band hails from Stockholm and was formed in the year 1990. The band saw several changes in the line up over the years however singer, guitarist and songwriter Mikael Akerfeldt has constantly stayed with the band and has provided amazing performances throughout his career. Their music incorporates elements of folk, progressive, blues, classical, jazz and death metal. Their early works entailed influences from black metal and death metal. The band has done various major world tours throughout their music career. They have released ten studio albums, three live albums, two boxsets and three live DVDs so far. Their debut album ‘Orchid’ was released in the year 1995. Opeth achieved mainstream worldwide commercial success only with their 2008 release, a studio album titled ‘Watershed’ which went on to reach #23 on the Billboard 200. The album also topped Finnish album charts and several other charts in its first week of release.
