Originally the British boyband were called UFO which was formed in London, England. The name UFO was basically decided as an acronym for Unique Famous Outrageous.
In the early years, the band signed as UFO to Tracklacers through their production company New Track City. The band went on to win their first award at Urban Music Awards for Best Unsigned Act with the aid of their music ‘Stand by Me’. The band soon released their second single titled ‘Slap Ya Elbow’.
As UFO auditioned for ‘The X Factor’, they were asked to change the band’s name due to name clashes. The band went on to become runners-up of ITV reality talent show ‘The X Factor’ in 2008 and came second to Alexandra Burke.
Epic Records noticed them in ‘The X Factor’ and signed JLS in the year 2009. The band’s first two single as JLS titled ‘Beat Again’ and ‘Everybody in Love’ reached #1 on UK Singles Chart. Their eponymous debut album sold over one million copies in UK.
