The black metal band hails from Bergen, Norway and was founded in the year 1990. Immortal was founded by the current original member vocalist/guitarist Abbath Doom Occulta and former guitarist Demonaz Doom Occulta. They have so far performed with different drummers like Grim Armagedda, Hellhammer and Horgh. Horgh is currently serving as the drummer for the band. The bass guitarist Apollyon who joined Immortal in 2006 is also one of the current members of the band.

The origins of the band saw Abbath forming two short lived bands named ‘Old Funeral’ and ‘Amputation’ in 1988. Amputation saw two demos before disbanding in 1990 while Old Funeral disbanded in the year 1992.

Immortal went on to release their first eponymous EP in the year 1991 which saw the band’s advancing stride towards black metal. The band’s debut album soon followed in the year 1992 which was entitled as ‘Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism’. The albums which followed their debut venture, helped in establishing Immortal as one of the best black metal performers of all time.
