The legendary American guitarist was a founding member of the heavy metal bands like Pantera and Damageplan. Darrell is considered to be one of the main driving forces behind groove metal genre.

Born on August 20, 1966, Darrell resorted to guitar at the young age of 12. The first band Pantera happened in 1981 which was formed by Darrell and his brother Paul, who was a drummer. Pantera became commercially very successful with the release of ‘Cowboys from Hell’ in 1990 which was the band’s first major label album.

Darrell took the nickname Dimebag Darrell in 1994. Paul and Darrell formed Damageplan after the band Pantera disbanded owing to tensions. The debut album of Damageplan titled ‘New Found Power’ peaked at #38 on Billboard 200 when it was released in 2004. Dimebag Darrell appeared in many films too and did several side projects.

Dimebag Darrell was shot and murdered while he was performing on stage on December 8, 2004.
