The American death metal band was formed in the year 1987 in Tampa, Florida. The band has been influenced and inspired by popular bands like Destruction, Sodom, Venom, Mayhem, Death, Autopsy and Slayer.

At the time of their formation, the band consisted of bassist/vocalist Benton, guitarists Hoffman brothers (Eric and Brian) and drummer Steve Asheim. Originally the band was called as Amon. They used to do various gigs locally after recording their first 8-track demo titled ‘Feasting the Beast’. It was in 1989 when Amon recorded their second demo ‘Sacrificial’ at Morrisound. The band was renamed to Carnage after several changes in the line- up. Later in 1989, after signing to Roadrunner Records the band changed their name to ‘Deicide’.

Their eponymous album was released in the year 1990. The band went on to release around 10 studio albums in total with their latest release being ‘To Hell with God’ released in 2011.
