The Cuban-American hip hop group from South Gate, California was formed in the year 1988 by two brothers Senen Reyes, famous as Sen Dog and Ulpiano Sergio Reyes, known as Mellow Man. The brothers teamed up with Lawrence Muggered (DJ Muggs) and Louis Freese (B-Real) in 1988 to form a group named DVX. DVX or Devasting Vocal Excellence changed their names to ‘Cypress Hill’ when Mellow Man decided to pursue his solo career and walked out of the group.

Their eponymous album released in the year 1991 became very popular which was followed by Black Sunday in 1993. The band earned worldwide critical acclaim for both the albums.

The band also recorded ‘Just Another Victim’ for WWE which was played as an entrance theme of Tazz. Their song ‘How I Could Just Kill a Man’ was included in GTA: San Andreas in 2004.

The band boasts of being the first Cuban-American/Latino hip hop group or band to have platinum and multi-platinum albums which went on to sell more than 18 million copies worldwide.
