The American heavy metal band hails from Waterford, Michigan and was formed in the year 2000. The 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, which was often referred to as Black Dahlia, was basically the inspiration of the band name.

The band completed their final line up in 2001 after which they released their first demo which was named ‘What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse’. The band also released a four track EP named ‘A Cold-Blooded Epitaph’ under Lovelost Records.

Black Dahlia Murder signed to Metal Blade Records in the year 2003. They came up with their first full length album entitled ‘Unhallowed’ in the year 2003 which was appreciated at a lower level. Their second album ‘Miasma’ released in the year 2005, however, peaked at #118 on the Billboard 200.

The band went on releasing their third and fourth album titled ‘Nocturnal’ and ‘Deflorate’ in the year 2007 and 2009 which peaked at #72 and #43. Their latest ‘Ritual’ too peaked at #31 on Billboard 200.
