The punk rock band was formed in the year 1979 in Los Angeles. The current band members are vocalist Greg Graffin, guitarist Brett Gurewitz, bassist Jay Bentley, guitarists Greg Hetson and Brian Baker and drummer Brooks Wackerman.

Brett Gurewitz also happens to be the founder of Epitaph Records label which went on to release almost all the albums of the band. Epitaph Records label has become one of the most successful independent record labels in the market which boasts of promoting hundreds of artists over the years.
