Alice in Chains is an American rock band which was formed in the year 1987 in Seattle, Washington by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and lead vocalist Layne Staley. Sean Kinney is the drummer of the band. Earlier bassist Mike Starr used to play for the band although he was replaced by Mike Inez in the year 1993.

The music of the band entails heavy metal and acoustic elements giving an amazing quality sound to their work. The sound of the band is often compared with grunge music. Alice in Chains have released four studio albums so far, three EPs, two live albums, four compilations and two DVDs. The band is most remembered for their amazing successful music acts in 90s.

The lead vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002 which saw a hiatus in the work of Alice in Chains. The band was, however, never officially disbanded hence it reunited in 2005 when William Duvall was taken as the lead vocalist.
