The English extreme metal band was formed in the year 1991 in Suffolk. Originally the music style of the band was black metal, although there were many variations with the inclusion of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and extreme metal in their music which was observed in the long run in their performances.

The band came up with three demos titled ‘Invoking the Unclean’, ‘Orgiastic Pleasures Foul’ and ‘Total Fucking Darkness’. Cradle of Filth have seen various changes in their line up ever since they were formed. Over 20 musicians have so far played for the band since its inception owing to the change in the line ups.

The lyrics, themes, covers and imagery of the band are highly inspired from gothic literature, mythologies and horror flicks. The band has been widely appreciated in various cults owing to their extreme metal music and their satanic and gothic themes.

The band has released around nine studio albums hitherto. According to a 2006 issue of Metal Hammer magazine, they are the most successful British heavy metal band since Iron Maiden.
